DESOLATION

Valence

Valence is a wizard/creator of the laziest kind. He created a lot of novelty items that are no longer in the game, including ASCII porn magazines, playing cards, eavesdropping equipment, talking guns, clones of Armrha, a potato sack for a desert preacher, transportable coffins, a boxing ring, a car that was really a moving room, and so much more. His one really useful creation, that actually does still exists in game, is the Ranger Starter Kit. He tries to make it a point to visit the MUD at least every six months to a year, and tell at least one story about something that happened 10 years before that no one wants to hear.

Character Background

Valence woke up in the desert one day with no memory of how he got there. All he remembered was that his name was Valence and he hated all robots. He started walking east and ended up at the Ranger Center, where he was nursed back to health. To show his thanks, he joined the Desert Rangers in their crusades. He slowly, and methodically, went about the task of cleaning up the wasteland. This consisted of walking to every populated area in his small part of the world and slaughtering all living inhabitants, then waiting for them to be ghoulishly resurrected by an unseen force, so he could do it again. Soon, Valence’s proficiency for wiping out every living thing earned him the attention of Ranger commander Luthen, who encouraged him to prepare for the trials that would see him acquire the Proton Axe, the most coveted weapon in all the wastes. One day, when he felt that he had passed an invisible milestone in his life, Valence contacted officer Luthen and took his trials, slaughtering many large bugs and monsters. At last, he had the Proton Axe of his dreams, and he used it to lay waste to many more innocent living things. Since he had achieved all that could be achieved in his world at the time, Valence took up the hobby of collecting human skulls, polishing and keeping them in a special mahogany carrying box he took with him everywhere.

After a long, long time, Valence caught the attention of a god named Bitterman, who lifted him up to heaven, so he could be as like unto a god. He started dressing like Simon Belmont for awhile, then Jason Voorhees. Valence has worn the guise of Jason for so long that he can’t be bothered to change.

Out of Character

Valence largely stole his name and back story from a Star Wars comic book. He never in character revealed the fact that he was a cyborg, since he didn’t know himself. Presumably he came from Base Cochise, where he had been cybernetically enhanced against his will and flung out into the wasteland by the explosion there.
