Texas in the world of Desolation is presently known as the Free Republic of Texas and covers about the same area as it does in the real world.
After the fall of the American government, Texas was the first to declare itself a country and close its borders. It quickly formed its own government with its own president and laws. The country became self-suffecient and while most of the inner cities enjoy a level of comfort found before the wars (though lacking some conviences like working cars), the smaller villages and settlements reverted back to the practices and standards of those in the old West.
Over the years, as raiding and mutant activity increased, large fences were erected around a majority of the major cities. Watchtowers were built along the borders and a border patrol of sorts was founded. This patrol became known as the Anti-Raider and Mutant Scum (A.R.M.S.) Squad. The A.R.M.S. Squad, as their name suggests, also serve more specialised tasks such as eradicating raider hideouts within Texas and deterring mutant attack parties. The A.R.M.S. Squad operates out of the city of El Paso, from which the western border can be tightly controlled.
It is known that former leader of the New Nevada Desert Rangers, Billy Bob Caine AKA Armorjerk, was once leader of the A.R.M.S. Squad. Why he left his position and Texas is unknown.
To the west is the hotly disputed No-Man’s Land.
