An exchange of offensive and defensive maneuvers is the heart and soul of combat, so how you balance your attacks with your defenses can be key to triumph. The stance command switches you between various weightings of offense vs defense.
Emphasising defense at the expense of offense will often help you avoid taking damage you would otherwise succumb to, but you’ll get less opportunity to maim your opponent. On the other hand, an all out attack will often leave subtle chinks in your defenses, making you vulnerable to counter-attack.
Choose a stance appropriate to the fight and you’ll fare better than blindly rushing in.
