The Spetsnaz were known before the war as Russia’s crack group of Special Forces under the direct command of GRU, the Soviet Military Intelligence aparatus. With an affinity for recon and sabotage missions, a few elite units were chosen to infiltrate US soil and prepare it for future invasion by carefully gathering intelligence and hitting certain objectives in carefully planned terrorist strikes.
Instead of the full blown invasion however, the world was soon caught in nuclear war due to a previously unforseen string of events, and the surviving units found themselves trapped in the newly created wastelands of North America with no prospect of returning to their Motherland.
One of such groups, stationed in the area of what is now part of New Nevada made the best of their situation, building themselves a base and community within the hidden enclosure of a mountain, and managed to survive through various generations, and become known as an effective band of Mercenaries, though never on the same scale of operations as groups such as AIM.
In recent years their secretive nature was thrown off and they made an increasing appearance and impact on New Nevada at large, especially under the guidance of the somewhat enigmatic figure known as ‘Viktor Ivanovich Gorchev’, who moved them out into the open with increasing political sway and show of force.
This attracted some trouble however, and their main base of operations ended up going up in flames as a single high-powered Bounty Hunter set off explosives with intent to lure out and capture their leader. He soon escaped and gathered his surviving force to relocate to new locations, as well as change their name and intent. Turning them into wasteland mafiosi now known as the Sindikat.
However, the Spetsnaz live forth in spirit as the most elite group within the Sindikat Private Army, acting as their Special Forces regiment with various special duties such as recon, assassination, sabotage, counter-insurgency and other such unique missions that require a degree of skill not commonly possessed by the unwashed masses. Selection and training is notoriously hard, designed around methods already used by the Spetsnaz of old and suitable ones that have been imported by members and officers formerly part of such groups as the Las Vegas Militia. As such the regiment enjoys a rather fearsome reputation within the small community of New Nevada para-military organizations, being known to ruthlessly and efficiently get the job done.
