Background
Past… that’s all Rylen seems to really have anymore. Born in the shadow of the Superstition mountains, which are located to the east of the ruins of Phoenix and was the last stronghold of the old citizens of said town. A father who taught the locals self defense to keep them from falling easy prey to raiders, and a mother who schooled the villagers as a nurse gave Rylen a strong back ground in both fields. The town was quiet for the most part, but it was short lived due to a raider invasion for a Russian group that was passing through. They were after the man and his wife for reasons unknown, and killed the husband on the spot. The noise woke the citizens who rallied to the defense of the two left over; the wife and the man’s daughter. Rylen, who was staying in the house next door, emerged one of the first with his father’s rifle in his hands only to find a raider pointing a gun at the woman and firing, killing her instantly. Frozen for a moment, Rylen glanced at the girl, who turned to look him in the eye.. The next sound that the youth heard was a loud bang; the raider fell to the floor in a bloody heap, the young man’s bullet had hit him square in the back of the neck. The towns people promptly took care of the rest of the raiders, which left the young girl an orphen.
The Grey family took the girl, Sheila, in and treated her as a daughter. She was the exact opposite of Rylen: carefree, lighthearted, and full of life. She and Rylen became close, and life went on as normal for good a few years to come. Nothing lasts forever, and on a simple delivery to the New Nevada Ranger Center, the family was attacked by yet another raider party that was after their shipment of food and supplies. His parents killed, and the supplies taken, and their cargo wagon burned, Rylen was left to fight the raiders on his own. It did very little good, since they quickly overwhelmed him just a he heard a second set of rifles ring out over the air he passed out.
Waking in the RC infirmary some time later, his leg, torso, and head bandaged, Rylen had no idea what happened. Each sibling the other had perished, they didn’t look for each other too long. After joining the Rangers, he quickly rose up through the ranks with attacks on the Raiders, often with little regard for self, leaving them in shambles and broken as often as possible. Becoming a doctor, and one of the commanding officers, Rylen had all but gave up every single ounce of hope of ever finding his sister alive. This changed when the officer had found the locket his sister used to own in pristine condition, renewing his hope of finding her again. All duties disregarded, the man searched high and low for her, but finding neither girl nor body, he is able to keep hope alive that one day she’ll be found.
Having risen to the rank of Captain, and started the New-Nevada Medical Association, his job is back to helping others, his faith renewed. He’s often found with a cigarette in his mouth, a bottle of pills in his pocket, and at least one hand to hand weapon along side with his Ranger issued weapons. Though he prefers to talk things over now, he will defend himself and others if it’s needed. It’s sad how often it is.
