DESOLATION

Help manual

Common commands

Here is a list of common commands often used by players.

alias - a somewhat more advanced command. To see how it’s used type ‘help alias’ and choose #3. Basically it allows you to shorten a command to a defined string. Say for instance I got tired of typing ‘recovery’ in the middle of combat to see what my cooldown timers were. I might make an alias ‘r’ that when typed would translate to ‘recovery’. The simplest way to demonstrate how this works is to show an example: [alias r recovery] - where ‘r’ is your ‘shortcut’ string that translates to ‘recovery’.. very useful. [alias wk wield knife] - where ‘wk’ is your ‘shortcut’ that translates to ‘wield knife’. A more advanced example of an alias might be: [alias c unwield knife; unwield gun; clot; wield knife; wield gun;] - here we’ve taken the simple input ‘c’ and turned it into a stack of commands. If your mud client recognizes ‘command stacking’ you would want to turn it off as you create your alias, then turn it back on when it’s ready. You’ll see what i mean when you try it.

armor - display your defendable body parts, what armor you are wearing on that part and the rating of your skill in using that armor.

augmentation management commands

auglist - displays a list of all the augmentations available.

augadd - allows you to add an augmentation (assuming you are at the appropriate level to do so). Simple type [augadd Pain Reading] for example.

augsreset - clears all the augmentations you’ve selected. This is useful if you fucked up while using ‘augadd’ (see above). The augmentation system is semi-unofficial and experimental and like anything else in the game is subject to drastic change at any time.

emote - This command allows you to be creative. It works like this: [emote jumps out of the way] - In the game you would see ‘Ironfoot jumps out of the way.’ Everyone in the same room as you would see ‘Ironfoot jumps out of the way.’ This command does not actually make Ironfoot jump anywhere, it merely displays this message. When you are roleplaying this is an essential tool. Also, when you are communicating to other people on channels this makes interactions much more fun. When using ’emote’ on a channel simple do: “gossip .grins”. Assuming you are ‘grinning’ in channel ‘gossip’, everyone who is paying attention will see ‘ Ironfoot grins’. The command ’emote’ is shortened to ‘.’

finger - allows you to learn a little more about another player. Try [finger ironfoot] or anyone else whether they are logged in or not. This command can be useful when creating a new character and you want to see if your name is available.

inventory - Arguably the 2nd most used command in the game. An alias already exists for it; simply type [i] to see what the hell you’re carrying.

kill - initiates combat with something.

look - or ’l’ for short. Probably the most used command. Shows you where the hell you are. If you don’t see a map try [map on], if you hate the map try [map off] (though i can’t imagine why you would). If you are carrying a map you can ‘read map’ while outside to see a colorful map of the Desolation region you are in.

n, s, e, w, ne, nw, se, sw - The directions you can go. Also valid are ’north, east, south, west’ etc. You can also use up, down, and named exits.

stats - (also ‘score’) Displays the all important ‘status’ of your character. Displays your name, title, nationality, rank, STEM (level), augmentation (if used), your strength, intellegence, constitution, reflexes, accuracy, and charm (with any bonuses applied), your health (hp is you like), mental action points, physical action points, money carried and your experience pool (also your experience debt is you have any). You can also see whether you are suffering from a status condition (such as bleeding or radiation poisoning). This is probably the 2nd most used command in the game.

who - Displays a directory of the people currently logged into Desolation. From here you can see what faction they belong to, what their title is and how long they have been idle for. Sometimes people (admins mostly) have been known to be idle for weeks, even months in the case of armrha at one time.
