This massive expanse of ashen wasteland is considered uninhabitable by all but the most robust and hardened survivalist communities. It’s loose borders reach from the Eastern edge of New Nevada to the Western boundries of Texas, including portions of original pre-war Arizona and New Mexico. The Deadlands are known to be one of the most difficult places to survive, with high levels of radiation in certain hot-spots, an increased mutation rate present in the wildlife, and an absence of organized law-enforcement (save for town marshalls and community militias) adding to the sorched land’s unhospitable reputation.
In the more lawless areas of the Deadlands, vicious gangs and marauder clans are the only inhabitants, preying on the few “civilized” communities, as well as engaging in widescale gang warfare with one another. The presence of these raiders, mutants, and gangers has served to earn the Deadlands a nickname of No-Man’s Land, with their constant turf battles driving off those few honest settlershoping to homestead in the region.
Lately, rumors have circulated that the Badland Originals have waged war on the scattered malcontents of the Deadlands, forming them into a “Trashbike Armada” for the purpose of controlling the area and bringing the numerous groups under a single banner as the Arizona Legion.
Current Expansion
Currently, there are plans expand the world-map Eastward, including No Man’s Land and a small section of Texas as part of the game proper. The overall theme of this area will be the war between Devil’s Arizona Legion, out for conquest, and the Deadlands Union, an alliance of gangs, militias and others who refuse to fall under Devil’s rule and aim to preserve their independence. Though the new part of the map will also include neutral towns, factions and areas. All in all providing new opportunities for RP and HnS alike. Below are some of the proposed areas and factions.
- Tuba City: One of the first towns to fall under Devil’s rule. After an extended siege involving the use of makeshift mortar fire, and the subsequent execution of local leadership on the town square, the Legion has fully made it theirs and construction is underway to repair the damage caused by all the fighting.
- Corpsetown: A mix of ghost-town and battlefield. Mainly a HnS area, it’s basically a ruined town littered in both Legion and Union corpses, no one left alive after fierce fighting. Players will fight the mutant creatures feeding on the bodies, and will be able to loot lower-grade, often damaged equipment from the dead.
- Clovis: A frontier town in former New Mexico right near the No Man’s Land/Texas border. It is home to both Union homesteaders and a Texas A.R.M.S. Squad outpost setup at the nearby Cannon Air Force Base. A refugee camp resides in the Hotel Clovis, made up out of people fleeing the war and hoping to get into Texas. But are subject to thorough screening by the local authorities.
- The Human Supremacy Front: An armed, organized group of Neo-Nazis with an unreasonable hate not just for other races, but also intelligent non-humans. As such they are known to attack tribal and mutant settlements, and are unlikely to ever be assimilated into the mutant-rich Legion. But for now are still safely out of the war’s reach. And might infact be a powerful enough force to oppose either the Legion or the Union if it came to it. Their leader is the strangely charismatic Maxwell Sneider. Big, blonde and strangely normal and sane looking compared to the rest of his group. But looks can be deceiving.
- Santa Fe: The main capital of the Deadlands Union, ruled with an iron fist by ex-ganglord and local dictator Santos “The Mayor” Santana. As the ‘Last Bastion of Hope’ to some in the east, in light of the Legion invasion, the Union has worked hard in fortifying the city and subsequently keeping it defended from the large-scale surrounding siege by Devil’s troops. Due to the various fortifications, a certain xenophobia displayed by the inhabitants after months of besiegement, and the fact the city is surrounded by a bloodthirsty enemy, Santa Fe is somewhat hard to get in or even close to for those not particulary affiliated to either side. But rumor has it there may be some- if not dangerous- ways into the city afterall.
