Appearance
From a distance, the first thing you’d notice about Alreth are his vividly green eyes, ever vigilant, scanning the horizon, searching for something, but never quite knowing what… When those eyes turn on you, somehow they look right through you, past the insanity wasteland life has wrought upon humanity. His countenance is an ageless one- hardened by the abrasive nature of the desert wastes, whose sands rub away all that is soft and weak- yet it also seems to be alight with the faint glimmer of hope. Perhaps it has something to do with his youthful features that distinguish his otherwise unremarkable face- high cheekbones that accompany full cheeks and a stubbled chin, with pale thin lips, slightly off white teeth, and thick eyebrows atop a somewhat furrowed brow, all graced by his shortly cropped brown hair.
Alreth is somewhat short- 5'8", but is of a somewhat stocky build, best suited for hoisting bales of hay or doing harvesting by hand perhaps, much like his poor farmer parents or the generations of Russian field workers before him. But lugging ammunition boxes around and hauling crates to and from supply depots was something Alreth found he was equally suited for. With his green eyes and his brown hair, Earth tones always suited Alreth well- which works well, considering the limited post war textile colorations available. He normally wears boots of some kind, to which he became accustomed to early in life (much like every other wasteland youth), wears rugged pants, and some sort collared field shirt. He learned to travel prepared in his years of wandering and from experience garnered in the presence of the A.R.M.S. Squad- as such, Alreth ALWAYS carries a knife, a secondary and a primary weapon, wears some level of ballistic protection, and carries a fair amount of gear, lest he need to bug out. This necessitates an adequate level of physical fitness, which Alreth adequately satisfies; he is not overtly muscular, but is able bodied and fit.
Description
The child of the wastes, led astray by the curiosities of his journeys, only to be brought back to the past and realities of the present that he so desperately ran from- such is the nature of the man known as “Alreth”.
“Alreth” was born into the world (thrust, rather) in a tiny shack in the Free Republic of Texas, just on the edge of civilization. Child of an already incomplete family in a long imperfect world, his youth was spent dreaming of days past, when futures were bright and the world alive. The burden of knowing that the wastes were once much kinder, that the evil of men was once tamed but now freer than ever, was too much for some. Like his mother. Like his father.
His parents were a frequent source of… grief, anger, and confusion in his life, albeit posthumously. They named him Ilari Oktyabrina Sokolov, true to his father’s heritage. He brought joy into their meager lives as farmers, with the promise of growing to be another helping hand in a few short years. That was before fate had to rear its ugly head, as one day, the 2 year old Ilari and his father returned to a broken home, a pile of used condoms and blood. Ilari’s father could not find his wife’s body- he would come to learn that slavers had taken her, and more, from young Ilari and his father.
The elder Sokolov set out with son and his rusting, partially functioning Jennings 22, and their meager life savings. To say that they fared well in the next year would be an outrageously proportioned lie. Father dead, and then just 3 years old, the young Ilari had somehow found his way into the caring arms of an old couple in Dumas, Texas. From the local townsfolk he acquired a more neutral accent, and was able to forget, partially, the nightmares of his second year. He grew to be a reserved and poorly understood child, but was at least civilized and well meaning. Though the couple did eventually learn of Ilari’s surname, the rest had been forgotten, lost to the ever shifting sands of the wastes. There, the younger Sokolov came to be known as “Alreth”, a name affectionately bestowed upon him by his newfound caregivers.
Further tragedy caused Alreth to seek out a new home, again. His “paternal figure” passed on on Alreth’s 14th birthday. Increasing tensions between the Arizona Legion marauders and the A.R.M.S. Squad led to the death of many of his hard earned friends. Yearning for a life lived with a purpose, Alreth aimlessly wandered the wastes, traveling further west. He would never see this mother, ever again, either. At least he got to say “Goodbye”.
Years later, an older, wiser, tougher Alreth looked out to the west and saw the dark blue waters of the pacific against the grim horizon. He joined the Sindikat for kicks- just so he could turn a quick buck off the shmucks of the waste. And maybe even the people he was working for.
